Biddeford man charged with stealing car

fitzgeraldWATERBORO — A 44-year-old Biddeford man who police say was driving a stolen vehicle was apprehended by York County Sheriff's deputies Wed-nesday on Lake Sherburne Road.

David A. Fitzgerald is charged with unauthorized use of property by Biddeford Police. He also faces charges from the sheriff's office, of operating after his license was revoked and violating conditions of release.

Chief Deputy Bill King said Waterboro Contract Deputy Shawn Sanborn was notified by Biddeford Police that a stolen vehicle might be in Waterboro, and that the person who allegedly took the vehicle was armed.

Sanborn and Acton-Shapleigh Contract Deputy Daniel Shaw drove to Lake Sherburne Road and encountered Fitzgerald driving in the opposite direction. He was stopped and arrested without incident. No weapon was found.

King said Fitzgerald is being held without bail and is scheduled to appear Friday at Biddeford District Court.
