Wednesday, June 25

A science fiction vs. fantasy cook club aimed at kids 11-15 years old is happening at Goodall library, 952 Main St., Sanford, starting at 4 p.m. June 25. Organizers say this is not a typical book club. Each month, participants read a science fiction or fantasy book of their choice, then they meet to discuss it. All are welcome. A presentation on health insurance literacy will be given from 6-7:30 p.m. on June 25 at Goodall Memorial Library, 952 Main St., Sanford. Join YCCAC/Nasson Healthcare Insurance Navigators Robin Hewitt Bibber and Celyn Reed for a presentation and discussion about health insurance literacy. Thursday, June 26

Learn about container gardening and create a mini-garden at this free program with Master Gardener Jolene Staruch at the Wells Public Library Thursday, June 26 at 6 p.m. Bring a plant pot if you have one, and the library will provide the proper soil, flowers, herbs and vegetables. This is a hands-on program and participants will be getting dirty, so dress appropriately. This event is sponsored by the Friends of the Wells Public Library. For more information, call 646-8181.

A tour will be given of The Pines, 20 Manor St. (off Temple Ave.), Ocean Park on Thursday, June 26 at 1 p.m. Those thinking about retirement living are welcome to come and take a look. Space is limited, so call ahead to 934-2157, ext. 1 for more information or to reserve your spot. Members of the community are also welcome to come to Pinewood Manor on Thursday, June 26 at 2 p.m. for a presentation by Zoe Thomas of the Saco Museum on “100 Years of Games and Toys.” This free, 45-minute presentation will address the history of games and toys in America and include games from the Saco Museum's collection dating from the 1850s through the 1950s. Friday, June 27

The “It's Better Late than Never” annual Benefit Dance will take place Friday, June 27 from 8 p.m. to midnight at the Biddeford Eagles on Birch Street. Tickets, for people 21 and older only, are available for purchase by calling Mona at 284-7721 or Rose at 523-0088. There will be raffle items, light snacks and a DJ. All ticket sales will benefit the rescued horses residing at Ever After Mustang Rescue in Biddeford. For more information on the mustang rescue, visit the website ww.mustangrescue.org.

Saturday, June 28

A bean supper will be served from 5-6:30 p.m. Saturday, June 28 at St. George Episcopal Church, 3 Emerson St., Sanford. All proceeds benefit community outreach in the Sanford area. For more information, call 324-8119.

A yard sale and lobster roll lunch will be held at Saco's United Baptist Church on Saturday, June 28 from 7:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. The lobster roll lunch will begin at noon. All proceeds will support the church's mission trip to La Romana in the Dominican Republic in 2015. The church is located at 318 Main St. in Saco.

The North Saco Congregational Church is serving a bean supper on June 29 from 4:30-6:30 p.m. at the corner of Flag Pond, Heath and Rocky Hill roads in Saco.

Vietnam Veterans of America and Associates of Vietnam Veterans of America Chapter 1044 of Sanford are sponsoring a fundraising chicken barbecue from noon to 5 p.m. Saturday, June 28 at New Covenant Church, 285 Maple St. in North Berwick. A pancake and egg buffet breakfast will be held at First Parish Congregational Church, UCC, 12 Beach St., Saco, on June 28 from 7-10 a.m.
