Thursday, Sept. 4

The Biddeford Republican City Committee monthly meeting is on Thursday, Sept. 4, starting at 6:30 p.m., located on the second floor of the Roland H. Petit building on 5 Washington St. in Biddeford. The City Committee supports limited government, fiscal responsibility, respect for the Maine Constitution and the U.S. Constitution. Registered Republicans are welcome. Allison Williams will speak on crime and punishment in York County, tracing how our ancestors handled punishment from the old “Whipping Tree” to the latest York County Jail, at the upcoming meeting of the Waterborough Historical Society. It will be held at the Grange Hall, 31 West Road in South Waterboro, Thursday, Sept. 4 at 7 p.m. The public is invited, and refreshments will be served. Saturday, Sept. 6

A bean supper will be held on Sept. 6 at the First Parish Congregational Church, corner of Beach and Main Streets in Saco. The meal will be served from 5-6:30 p.m. A performance by the Alumni Band Concert begins at 7 p.m.

A pie and book sale is scheduled at Newfield Library during the Farmers & Artisans Market, Water Street, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 6, rain or shine. A variety of pies and books will be on sale and there will be a baking-themed basket raffle. For more information, call 636-7961.

A bean supper will be served on Saturday, Sept. 6 from 5-6:30 p.m. at the West Kennebunk United Methodist Church at 160 Alfred Road in Kennebunk. For more information, call 985-6632.

Bikefest on the Pier, a motorcycle showcase with live music, pig roast and vendors, is scheduled for Sept. 6 in Old Orchard Beach. Hundreds of motorcycles will be on display starting at noon. For more information, call 207-934-3595 or visit www.oobpier.com.

The Tri-State Fishing Tournament in Old Orchard Beach is set for Sept. 6-7. This catch-and-release tournament for striped bass and blue fish takes place on the beach. For more information, call 508-866-4815.

Sunday, Sept. 7

Scottish country dancing will be held Sundays from 5:30-7:30 p.m. at the Community House on Temple Street in Kennebunkport beginning Sept. 7. All ages, singles and couples, beginners and experienced dancers are welcome. Soft shoes are recommended. Contact to confirm. Monday, Sept. 8

The next meeting of the Homeschooling Group will be held at the Kennebunk Free Library on Monday, Sept. 8 from 2-4 p.m. No pre-registration is needed. This is an opportunity for homeschooling families to get together with others and exchange ideas or ask questions. Newcomers to homeschooling or families exploring the option are welcome to drop in to learn more. Activities for children will be provided. This drop-in group meets monthly. Future meetings will be on the first Monday of every month from 2-4 p.m. Kennebunk Free Library is located at 112 Main St., Kennebunk. Tuesday, Sept. 9

The Buxton-Hollis Historical Society will host “Preserving the Harvest: A Time to Reap,” presented by master food preservationist Heidi Carter Tuesday, Sept. 9 at 6:30 p.m. Carter will speak about how reaping was done throughout history. Attendants may learn the techniques that their grandmothers used, and discover that they are still pertinent and even preferable to the ways in which people obtain a food supply. Anyone with preserved food can share tips. The suggested donation is $10 ($8 for seniors). The BHHS History Center is located at 100 Main St. (Route 4A), Bar Mills, Buxton.

The next community potluck lunch will be Tuesday, Sept. 9 at 11:30 a.m. at Buxton Town Hall. All ages are welcome. Please plan to bring something to share. For more information, contact Tashia Pinkham, recreation director, at 929-8381.
