From the Journal Tribune: “Central Maine Power Company is proposing a major transmission line project in Saco and Old Orchard Beach. As part of the project, new transmission lines would run near Route 5 to the Middle School, across Buxton Road near Rotary Drive, then across Jenkins Road adjacent to Chelsea Circle. The lines would continue through the industrial park, General Dynamics, across Route One near Goosefare Lane, off Ross Road and into Old Orchard Beach.”

50 years ago

From the Biddeford-Saco Journal: “What is believed to be the oldest store in the local area is moving back to the location it left 37 years ago. A.R. Levasseur, proprietor of Twambley Jewlery Store at 264 Main St., Saco, announced this morning that he is moving the store to the newly rebuilt block of stores at 158 Main St. This is the location the Twambley store occupied from the time it was founded in 1856 until the move to the present location in 1929.”

100 years ago

From the Biddeford Daily Journal: “Wilbur T. Emerson, landlord of the Augusta House, formerly of the Congress Square, Portland, has been named by the grand exalted ruler of the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks as district deputy of the western district of Maine and Herschell Shaw of Houlton for the Eastern district.”
