SANFORD — An elderly Wells driver was pronounced dead at the scene when his Honda sport utility vehicle crashed head-on into a Ford pickup truck Saturday on snowy roads on Route 4.

Donald Yeskoo, 88, was driving eastbound on Route 4, known locally as Country Club Road, when his Honda lost traction on the snow-covered road and hit a Ford pickup truck traveling west, said Sanford Deputy Police Chief Tim Strout in a statement issued Monday morning.

Yeskoo was killed in the crash. His passenger, Joan Yeskoo, 82, sustained internal injuries and was taken to Wentworth Douglas Hospital in Dover, New Hampshire, Strout said.

The operator of the Ford truck, Calvin Hilton, 69, of Ogunquit, was not injured. His passenger, Arline Racin, 72, also of Ogunquit, sustained possible injuries and was taken to Southern Maine Health Care Sanford.

Strout said the accident remains under investigation.

The crash took place at about 4:41 p.m. during York County’s first significant snowstorm of the season.
